WELCOME TO THE HIGHLAND HOME CHURCH OF CHRIST PAGE. Above is the jet that sits at the Highland Home School, directly across from the church building. It represents the Flying Squadron of Highland Home School.
The Highland Home church has been in existence since the late 1800's. There is a rich history behind the congregation here in Highland Home, including the Highland Home College which was open in the late 1800's. The school was operated by members of the church, and trained teachers and preachers. One building from the school still stands, a two story house just south of the Highland Home School that served as one of the dorms.
The church at Highland Home is dedicated to going back beyond denominationalism and man made religious organizations, and simply following the New Testament as our guide in all matters religious. The only creed book to which we have allegiance is to the word of God as revealed in the New Testament. The Old Testament is a part of the inspired word of God, but we are no longer bound by its teachings; instead we are to listen to Jesus, and to those upon whom He sent the Holy Spirit to guide them into all truth, and to bring all things to their remembrance (John 14, John 16). That revealed word is sufficient within itself, and there is no need for man-made creed books, etc.
We are dedicated to preaching the truth in love, without compromise, but without a "holier than thou" attitude as well. We understand that all fall short of the glory of God. We also recognize the essentiality of repentance and making the effort to take advantage of the Grace of God offered in Jesus Christ.
Our worship is simple and uncomplicated. We sing as a congregation, without choirs or other external groups beyond all of those gathered together, and without the use of instrumental music. The word of God is preached. Every Sunday we partake of the Lord's Supper in memory of the death of Jesus. We approach the heavenly Father in prayer. We give of our means, as each one has prospered. To put it simply, we are determined to follow the pattern set forth in the scriptures.
When one who is old enough to be held accountable to God is a confessing, penitent believer, he or she is baptized into Christ for the remission of sins, according to the scriptures (Acts 2:38; Acts 22:16, etc.). No one can be good enough to save himself or herself. Instead, in obeying the gospel, individuals take advantage of the Grace of God extended through Jesus Christ and the blood that He shed for our sins upon the cross of Calvary.
We are not identified with a denominational group. We simply want to be a part of the church for which Jesus died. We wear the name of Christ as Christians, and identify ourselves as a part of the church of Christ, which He owns, built, and of which He is the only head.
